Mar 4, 2026 at 8:05 AMCo-op has announced the appointment of Andy Wilmot MBE as the new Group Supply Chain and Logistics Director. He will begin his role in April and will work closely with the outgoing director Derek Furnival, who will leave the company in June after 30 years.
Wilmot brings over 30 years of experience in logistics and supply chain management. Most recently, he served as Group Logistics and Supply Chain Director at A.F. Blakemore & Son and previously worked as Operations Director at DHL Supply Chain. In his new role, he will be responsible for the logistics operations of the convenience retailer, which supplies 8,000 stores across various distribution structures.
In an initial statement, Wilmot expressed his enthusiasm for the challenges in retail: “Moving to the forefront of retail logistics and supply chain management is something I am truly looking forward to. I can’t wait to bring my experience and knowledge to Co-op. The supply chains and logistics networks in retail are complex environments and form the backbone of operations, especially at Co-op.”
Matt Hood, Group Managing Director of Co-op, emphasized the importance of logistics and supply chain operations for the company’s future strategy. “The strength of our supply chain and logistics operations cannot be underestimated. Andy’s experience and skills will enable a real transformation in this area. I am confident about what we can achieve in 2026 and beyond,” said Hood.
Hood also expressed regret over the impending departure of Derek Furnival, who has played a significant role in the company over the past three decades. “We are sad to say goodbye to Derek, who will be greatly missed for his skills and experience,” he added.
Co-op is one of the largest consumer cooperatives in the world and operates a wide range of services. The company employs 53,000 staff and generates over £11 billion annually.
