Oct 17, 2022 at 5:59 PMThe GVZ Development Measures GmbH of the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen, and Neusäß signed the purchase agreement for 85,000 m² of building land in the Freight Transport Center (GVZ) Region Augsburg together with DB Netz AG on October 13, 2022. This marks the next milestone on the way to the container terminal.
(Augsburg) With the contract, the property west of the Augsburg-Nördlingen railway line is transferred to DB Netz AG. Currently, preliminary measures for clearing the construction site are taking place on the property. With the approval of the design planning, the Europe-wide tendering of construction services will begin. The awarding of all trades is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

This is a significant milestone on the way to the container terminal. The Augsburg region is getting closer to its vision of a high-performance freight transport center.”
Planning Security as an Important Signal
“The purchase agreement was concluded according to the schedule of DB Netz AG. The milestone-oriented planning security is an important signal for all stakeholders and companies in the freight transport center,” comments Ralf Schmidtmann, Managing Director of GVZ Development Measures GmbH.
With the sale, all rights and obligations for the property are transferred to DB Netz AG as the builder. The operator for the container terminal will be the Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße mbH, short DUSS. The facility for combined transport includes four handling tracks of approximately 700 m usable length each and two portal cranes. Operations are scheduled to start in 2026 with 62,000 loading units per year and can be expanded to 105,000 loading units.
