With this delivery, the shipping company expands its fleet with a tenth vessel designed for the future use of ammonia as an alternative fuel, as stated. The Grande Tokyo is the last of a total of seven sister ships commissioned from the shipyards SWS (Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited) and CSTC (China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited), both of which are part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC).
Transport capacities and applications
According to the company, the Grande Tokyo is designed for the transport of vehicles, including cars, SUVs, and vans, which can be powered both electrically and by conventional fuels. Additionally, the ship can also carry other types of rolling cargo. With a loading capacity of 9,241 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) and four decks, the Grande Tokyo is capable of transporting heavy loads of up to 250 tons and a height of up to 6.5 meters.
