The Italian express service BRT, part of the Geopost network, has launched a partnership with Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) to support mobile clinics in the Afar region of Ethiopia. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to social responsibility and aims to strengthen the logistical infrastructure for access to health services in one of the most complex humanitarian contexts in the Horn of Africa.
The MSF mobile clinic is designed to operate in geographically disadvantaged and infrastructurally fragile areas where access to basic health services is severely limited. BRT will contribute through flexible transport solutions and operational means to ensure that these clinics reach communities that would otherwise be excluded from primary health care. The focus is particularly on programs for prevention, maternal and child care, and the treatment of widespread diseases.
The Afar region is affected by multiple crises, including climatic challenges, food insecurity, and socioeconomic instability. In this context, the ability to provide health services directly on-site is crucial for maintaining health care and protecting public health. According to MSF’s operational data for 2023–2024, the rates of acute malnutrition among children under five years old reach critical levels of 26%, while access to health facilities remains severely restricted.
The collaboration between BRT and MSF is based on the understanding that the effectiveness of humanitarian operations also depends on the robustness of the logistical infrastructure. BRT’s support aims to ensure operational efficiency and continuity of health interventions in hard-to-reach areas.
Laura Perrotta, Fundraising Director of Medici Senza Frontiere Italy, emphasizes that strengthening logistics is key to maintaining the effectiveness of operations on the ground. „Mobile clinics are an essential tool for reaching populations living outside traditional health systems. Collaborations like the one with BRT help ensure operational continuity and make health interventions sustainable in extremely complex contexts.“
With this initiative, BRT reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, based on the integration of economic responsibility, strategic competencies, and measurable social impact. This solidifies the company’s role as a responsible player in an interdependent economic and social ecosystem.
