Apr 17, 2026 at 11:55 AMSchmitz Cargobull has now introduced the telematics solution TrailerConnect® in a version certified specifically for the Turkish market. This adaptation enables transport companies operating in Turkey or conducting cross-border transports to utilize a fully approved solution for the digital monitoring and management of their trailer fleets.
The TrailerConnect® technology is already integrated as standard in the product lines of Schmitz Cargobull. The telematics system and the associated services are tailored to the specific requirements of transport tasks and the respective vehicles. To date, over 305,000 telematics units have been sold. However, specific regulatory requirements must be met for approval in various countries. In Turkey, for example, the use of Turkish SIM cards and data transmission via servers controlled by national authorities are required.
Dr. Cafer Ince, Head of Product Line Digital Services at Schmitz Cargobull, emphasizes: “With the country-specific adaptation of TrailerConnect®, we ensure a fully compliant and simultaneously powerful telematics usage for our customers in Turkey.” Compliance with the requirements of the Turkish regulatory authority BTK (Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu) enables transport companies to efficiently manage their fleets using real-time data and meet all legal requirements.
Optimization of Fleet Management
The telematics platform TrailerConnect® offers shippers and freight forwarders a comprehensive solution for monitoring the transport process and ensuring cargo safety. The importance of reliable real-time data along the entire logistics chain is increasing. TrailerConnect® enables effective management of connected transport processes and contributes to efficiency improvements as well as a reduction in total costs of ownership (TCO).
Kerem Taş, Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull Turkey, highlights the continuous growth of the plant in Sakarya Erenler, which has been in operation since 2017. The plant has continuously evolved through new projects and developments. “Today, the plant is one of only two production sites worldwide that produce Schmitz Cargobull axles. It is also the only plant that manufactures Schmitz Cargobull container chassis for markets worldwide,” explains Taş.
Murat Tokatlı, Head of Sales and Marketing at Schmitz Cargobull Turkey, points to the dynamic development of the Turkish semi-trailer market in recent years. “Our transport refrigeration units S.CU are designed for all types of transport. With over 38,000 units sold, we demonstrate our strong position in temperature-controlled transport. According to data from the Turkish Association of Heavy Commercial Vehicle Manufacturers (TAID), two out of three refrigerated trailers registered in Turkey are from Schmitz Cargobull,” says Tokatlı.
Increasing Efficiency and Safety
TrailerConnect® captures relevant information about the trailers and transport refrigeration units, including position, EBS data, tire pressure, door status, and temperature data. This information is transmitted in real-time to the TrailerConnect® portal. Dispatchers receive a reliable data basis to optimally utilize capacities and avoid empty runs. Individual alarms and configurations in the portal facilitate the management of the entire fleet. Historical data also supports preventive maintenance planning by providing early warnings of wear or anomalies.
The telematics solution not only improves operational processes but also enhances safety in daily transport operations. In the event of deviations from prescribed routes or safety-relevant incidents, responsible parties are immediately notified. Better utilization of trailers combined with the reduction of empty runs leads to a more efficient and lower-emission operation. The tire pressure monitoring functions also contribute to reducing fuel consumption and thus CO₂ emissions.
By providing real-time data, reliable documentation, and a structured reporting system, a high level of transparency in fleet management is achieved. This enables informed operational and strategic decisions and supports transport companies in optimizing their processes.
