Jul 7, 2021 at 5:09 PMAlfred Schuon GmbH has signed the international charter for the ‘Improvement of Driver Treatment at Delivery Locations.’ The initiative was launched by the interest groups International Road Transport Union (IRU), European Shippers’ Council (ESC), and European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF).
(Haiterbach) Their goal is to improve the situation at loading and unloading ramps and to increase appreciation for professional drivers. With its signature, the logistics service provider from Haiterbach is making a statement for fair working conditions in road transport.
“As a logistics service provider, we take on system-relevant functions for the supply of society. This is especially true for our drivers, who are out on the road in their trucks every day,” says Marc Bohnert, Head of Logistics at Alfred Schuon GmbH. However, poor working conditions at the ramps have led to fewer and fewer people entering this profession. “It is high time to increase appreciation and attractiveness in the road transport industry to counteract the severe shortage of skilled workers,” Bohnert adds.
Optimizing Operational Processes Along the Supply Chain
The family-owned company from Haiterbach has therefore decided to join the international charter for the improvement of driver treatment at delivery locations. “Together with many other stakeholders, we want to help optimize working conditions and operational processes along the supply chains and ensure respectful cooperation,” explains the logistics manager.
By signing, the logistics service provider commits to the principles of the charter, many of which are already part of Schuon’s daily operations. These include transparent and respectful communication among all transport participants and the use of suitable vehicles and trained personnel. The agreement also holds employees accountable, as Frank Wohlgemuth, Head of Fleet and Driver Personnel at Alfred Schuon GmbH, reports: “Our drivers are already working on a set of rules that will incorporate the provisions of the charter.”
