Zilles to lead Strategic Product Management at HGK
Jun 26, 2026 at 7:38 AMSouth Carolina Ports has announced that it will temporarily suspend container operations at the Leatherman Terminal starting August 1, 2026. This measure comes in the context of a challenging market situation characterized by an uncertain trade forecast and moderate volumes, as the company reports. The decision aims to strengthen the port’s cost competitiveness and create the conditions for future growth.
Wando and North Charleston in operation
The terminals in Wando and North Charleston will, however, remain operational and, according to the company, provide sufficient capacity for the current demands of customers in the Southeast market. According to Micah Mallace, President and CEO of SC Ports, close collaboration with maritime partners is being pursued to ensure the long-term development of the port. “We all want to retain existing business and attract new customers to Charleston,” Mallace stated.
The consolidation of container operations to the two remaining terminals is intended to ensure that shippers and ocean carriers continue to receive the usual service. SC Ports emphasizes that the maritime community in Charleston is known for its productivity, reliability, and personalized customer service.
