Among the prominent customers of the Norwegian company is the Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA, whose location in Sylvia Park, Auckland (photo) is equipped with an AutoStore system. The increasing demand for automated solutions is reflected in the growing number of companies looking to modernize their fulfillment processes.
Growing demand for automation
Companies in Australia and New Zealand are increasingly turning to automation to meet the rising demands for speed, accuracy, and reliability. AutoStore technology is utilized across various industries such as retail, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing. These systems enable companies to handle higher volumes and utilize available space more efficiently while responding more quickly to changing demands.
A strong partner network supports AutoStore’s growth in the region. Companies like Swisslog, Dematic, Kardex, and Element Logic play a central role in planning, implementing, and supporting the systems for customers from various sectors. Sven Åge Hjorteland, President APAC at AutoStore, emphasizes: “AutoStore is now firmly established in Australia and New Zealand, and this growth reflects what we can achieve together with our partners.”
At IKEA Sylvia Park, automation from Swisslog is integrated directly into the store environment to enable faster and more accurate order fulfillment for online and click-and-collect customers. Terry Jamieson, Business Development Manager at Dematic, highlights:
“Healthcare logistics requires accuracy, reliability, and the ability to scale with growing communities. Together with AutoStore, we are supporting South West Healthcare in strengthening its fulfillment processes.”
Successful projects in the region
In New Zealand, Douglas has installed an automated storage and retrieval system from AutoStore in its facility in West Auckland in collaboration with Kardex. This allows the company to increase storage capacity and better utilize available space in the warehouse. In Australia, Kardex has also provided an AutoStore system for Pirtek to support more efficient operations in industrial distribution.
Grant Smith, Director of Business Development AutoStore ANZ at Kardex, explains:
“Projects with Douglas and Pirtek demonstrate how AutoStore can help customers increase capacity, improve accuracy, and support growth while better utilizing available space.”
The advancements in the region reflect the growing global demand for faster, more reliable, and space-saving fulfillment solutions.
