Jul 8, 2026 at 1:55 PMThe construction of a new logistics center near the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) has begun. The project, developed by Hillwood, a company of the Perot Group, covers an area of 31,000 square meters and is expected to be completed by 2027. It is located about 1 kilometer from the airport and is designed as the first phase of the Rockford Logistics Park 20.
The new building will be utilized for various purposes, including air freight, logistics, distribution, as well as light manufacturing and assembly. The flexible design allows for either a single tenant or multiple tenants.
Zack Oakley, the Executive Director of the Chicago Rockford International Airport, commented on the construction: „The start of construction is another sign of the ongoing investments around the airport and the growing demand for logistics facilities in Rockford.“ He emphasized that such developments complement the airport’s freight operations by creating additional capacity for businesses that want to benefit from Rockford’s specialized freight infrastructure and connectivity.
Hillwood is one of the largest developers of industrial real estate in the United States and has developed more than 32 million square meters of industrial and commercial space worldwide. Don Schoenheider (2nd from left), Executive Vice President and Market Leader for the Midwest at Hillwood, stated: „Rockford offers the accessibility and operating environment that logistics users are looking for. The targeted focus on freight operations and efficient access to key markets made it a natural location for our first development in the Rockford/Winnebago County region.“
Schoenheider sees the project as the beginning of a long-term investment in Rockford and looks forward to future collaboration.
The completion of the logistics center is expected in 2027.
