Jun 18, 2026 at 2:26 PMAmazon has invested over £1 billion (€1.154 billion) in Northamptonshire and created 4,000 jobs. As part of this investment, the company opened a new fulfillment center in Northampton and announced the construction of a large cross-dock facility in Kettering. These developments are part of a comprehensive plan to invest a total of £40 billion (€46 billion) in the UK over the coming years.
Expansion in Northamptonshire
The new fulfillment center in Northampton is one of the most advanced logistics centers in the United Kingdom. Thousands of robots work alongside employees across three floors. The planned cross-dock facility in Kettering will be the largest of its kind in the country and is designed to efficiently sort and distribute goods nationwide. These two locations will create more than 4,000 jobs, including many full-time positions in various fields such as engineering, IT, and human resources.
Gareth Davies, Regional Director of Amazon, expressed pride in the developments in Northamptonshire:
“Our new fulfillment facility is operational and offers state-of-the-art robotics as well as real career opportunities.”
Economic impact and government support
Amazon’s investments are seen by the UK government as crucial for job creation. Pat McFadden, Minister for Employment and Pensions, emphasized that such investments help people transition from benefits to employment. This aligns with government policy aimed at creating jobs across all parts of the country.
In addition to the new jobs in Northamptonshire, Amazon has also invested in other regions of Great Britain in recent years, including a new fulfillment center in Hull, which will create 2,000 jobs, as well as a new distribution center in Peterborough, set to open in the fall.
Expansion of London headquarters
Alongside the developments in Northamptonshire, Amazon has also expanded its headquarters in Shoreditch (photo), London. A new building has been opened, providing space for around 6,000 employees. This expansion includes over 140 communal spaces designed for team collaboration. During construction, archaeological finds were made, which have been integrated into the design of the new building.
Investments in training and community
Amazon is also committed to training and supporting people in Great Britain. The company has announced plans to invest $1 billion in its Career Choice program, which aims to train employees in future-oriented fields such as technology and logistics. Additionally, Amazon is the largest private provider of supported internships for young people with learning disabilities and autism in the United Kingdom and plans to quadruple this program by 2030.
