Westwell optimizes air freight with AI
Jun 18, 2026 at 3:23 PMThe signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Western Sydney International Airport, which aims to handle its first freight flight (Qantas Freight) on July 26, 2026, and the Australia Saudi Logistics Alliance (ASL Alliance) has been announced. This initiative aims to strengthen freight and trade connections between Australia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The ASL Alliance is a non-profit body composed of representatives from government, airports, airlines, freight operators, as well as importers and exporters. The goal of the alliance is to support practical initiatives that enhance supply chain resilience, facilitate market access, and deepen bilateral economic relations between the two countries.
Strengthening air freight connections
This partnership is seen as an important step in creating a more robust air corridor between Australia and Saudi Arabia. It aims to open new business opportunities for companies, freight operators, and investors in both markets.
Under the leadership of Simon Hickey (left), the CEO of Western Sydney International Airport, the airport is positioned as one of Australia’s most significant international trade and growth corridors. The airport’s commitment to innovation, connectivity, and global collaboration aligns with the shared goal of promoting bilateral trade between Australia and Saudi Arabia.
As the newest international airport in Australia and the only 24/7 air traffic hub in Sydney, Western Sydney International Airport is particularly well-equipped to support direct air freight connections between the two countries. This enables faster and more efficient access to one of the fastest-growing markets in the world and opens new avenues for Australian businesses.
The stakeholders involved look forward to close collaboration to strengthen these connections and support the growth of direct freight and logistics services between the two nations.
