Europa Road warns of transport changes
Jun 18, 2026 at 2:39 PMSTEF, a French company specializing in the transport, logistics, and storage of temperature-controlled food products, celebrated the opening of a new frozen storage expansion at its site in Reichstett, Alsace, on June 11, 2026. This expansion was realized in collaboration with MARS WRIGLEY, a significant player in the global confectionery industry. The new storage capacity became operational at the end of 2024 and reached its full utilization over the past year. It supports the production and distribution of MARS WRIGLEY’s ice cream varieties.
Long-standing partnership and continuous growth
The collaboration between STEF and MARS WRIGLEY began in 1989 with the opening of the MARS WRIGLEY factory in Steinbourg, which serves as the company’s only production facility for ice bars in Europe. As part of this partnership, STEF built a new cold storage chamber in Reichstett to ensure the storage of ice products. Since then, STEF has expanded the site multiple times to meet the growing demands of the company. The current expansion encompasses a volume of 65,000 m³ and a height of 14.9 m.
The investment in the new storage capacity amounts to 15 million EUR. STEF, which is 90% owned by its own sites, pursues a long-term strategy in building its logistics facilities. The expansion includes mobile shelving systems and conveyor belts to optimize logistics processes, as well as efficient insulation and photovoltaic systems on the roof. Additionally, an environmentally friendly ammonia-based refrigerant is used to minimize environmental impact.
Expanded storage capacities for MARS WRIGLEY
The new storage expansion enables MARS WRIGLEY to increase the production capacity of its factory in Steinbourg, which annually produces over 30,000 tons of ice products such as Snickers®, Mars®, Twix®, and Bounty®. Furthermore, the entire product range of MARS WRIGLEY, including the mini ice portions Trü Frü®, is stored in Reichstett. The site now offers space for nearly 28,000 pallet slots, of which 15,000 are accommodated in the new expansion.
Damien Chapotot, Managing Director of STEF France, emphasized the importance of the long-standing partnership: “Today’s celebration is a concrete expression of the trust that connects us: a long-term investment, dedicated teams, and a site that meets the needs of a global player.” Victoria Abramova, Managing Director of MARS WRIGLEY France, added: “This expansion reflects a 37-year partnership based on trust and shared ambitions. By centralizing our operations in Reichstett, we are creating a modern and efficient European logistics center for our ice cream varieties while significantly reducing our CO2 footprint.”
