Jun 15, 2026 at 10:57 AMCSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal, the operator of the container terminal in the Port of Bilbao, has made an investment of 9.5 million euros to acquire a new Super Post-Panamax crane (Ship-to-Shore, STS). This crane is described in a statement from the port as the largest of its kind in the Atlantic arc and is expected to increase the operational capacity of the terminal. The investment is part of a plan that has seen over 26 million euros flow into the Port of Bilbao over the past ten years.
Capacity expansion
The new crane is intended to complement the existing two Super Post-Panamax cranes at the terminal and is expected to enhance the efficiency of loading and unloading container ships. With its technology, the aim is to reduce turnaround times for large vessels and strengthen the logistical competitiveness of companies in the hinterland of the port. The crane was delivered in October 2024 and was put into operation in early June 2026.
The equipment of the new STS crane includes various safety systems, including collision prevention systems and cameras that assist in handling. These technologies are designed to enable safer and more precise operations. Additionally, the crane is equipped with systems that, according to the company, align with the sustainability goals of CSP Spain and aim to reduce environmental impact.
