This is according to the latest data from WorldACD Market Data. Despite this recovery, air freight rates fell by 1% compared to the previous week, while fuel prices decreased. The global Chargeable Weight increased by 3% in calendar week 23 compared to the previous week. Previously, it had decreased by 7% in the prior week, as reported by the online portal STAT Times.
Regional developments in air freight traffic
The recovery of air freight activities was particularly driven by North America, where volumes increased by 16%. The Middle East and South Asia (MESA) also recorded a rise of 13%. In Europe, volumes rose by 6%, while Africa saw an increase of 3%. In contrast, the Asia-Pacific region and Central and South America experienced declines of 2% each. The effects of the Eid al-Adha holiday were evident when comparing the last two weeks with the previous two weeks, according to STAT Times. The outgoing chargeable weight from MESA and Africa decreased by 13% and 12%, respectively. In the intercontinental sectors, the volumes from Europe, North America, and MESA were lower during this period.
