Jun 11, 2026 at 10:12 AMIn Hutchins, Texas, one of the largest and most advanced automated distribution centers for temperature-controlled products is being built worldwide. Construction for the facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, recently began. Lineage, a North American provider of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics services, is relying on the expertise of the Austrian service provider TGW Logistics to automate central warehousing processes. Once operational, the highly automated distribution center will support a major U.S. food producer and strengthen Lineage’s cold supply network in North America.
The location in the Dallas–Fort Worth logistics center allows for efficient distribution of refrigerated and frozen products throughout the United States. Lineage, headquartered in Michigan, was founded in 2008 and has developed into one of the largest providers in this field. The company operates over 500 temperature-controlled facilities worldwide and serves customers in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In fiscal year 2025, Lineage achieved a revenue of approximately $5.4 billion and employs around 24,000 people.
Automation for demanding warehouse environments
The mechatronic equipment used in cold storage facilities must meet strict requirements for reliability, safety, and performance. Systems employed in temperature-controlled logistics facilities must also operate efficiently under extreme conditions. TGW Logistics has developed its automation solutions specifically for demanding environments such as refrigerated and frozen storage. Core technologies include shuttle systems, conveyor technology, and palletizing solutions that operate reliably at temperatures as low as -30 °C.
As part of the project in Texas, TGW Logistics is providing a comprehensive automation solution that includes a shuttle warehouse, energy-efficient conveyor technology for pallets and cartons, as well as automated palletizing and depalletizing stations. The system is designed for high throughput rates and reliable order fulfillment, enabling fast and efficient handling of refrigerated and frozen goods. Automation is a central component of Lineage’s strategy to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the global cold supply network.
Michael Pammer, CEO of the Customer Unit Distributor Business at TGW Logistics, commented on the collaboration: „A close, cooperative relationship and a shared understanding of values have connected Lineage and TGW Logistics for many years. Together, we continue to evolve to provide even better service to our customers and consumers. We are therefore particularly pleased with the trust placed in us to implement such a significant project in Texas.“ Pammer also emphasized that automation solutions that combine performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability play a key role for future-proof warehousing operations, especially in light of challenges such as labor shortages and increasing efficiency demands.
