Jun 4, 2026 at 7:14 AMThe Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) has successfully completed the acquisition of a 50% stake in the terminal project Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz S.A. in Brazil. This was announced on June 3, 2026, after all necessary regulatory approvals were granted. The joint venture will be operated in collaboration with the Imetame Group, which is also involved in the development of the new container terminal.
Development of the container terminal
The terminal, strategically located in Aracruz in the state of Espírito Santo, is designed by HGT to handle large container ships. It is intended to serve as a hub for foreign trade and provides access to the east coast of Brazil. The planned commissioning of the terminal is scheduled for mid-2028.
The facility will be equipped with a draft of 17 meters and a quay length of 750 meters. The annual capacity of the terminal is estimated by HGT to be approximately 1.2 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). The partnership between HGT and the Imetame Group was agreed upon in December 2025.
