Jun 2, 2026 at 8:19 AMFedEx has announced today the strategic expansion of its logistics operations by deploying a Boeing 767 freighter on the route Miami – Guatemala City – San Pedro Sula – Miami. This larger aircraft replaces the previous Boeing 757 and is intended to enhance direct connectivity, increase capacity, and improve operational efficiency.
The route was introduced in September 2024 when FedEx established its direct presence in Honduras. Since then, customer demand has steadily increased. With the introduction of the larger aircraft, the daily cargo capacity doubles to over 45 tons, significantly expanding the possibilities for heavy freight transport. This improved connectivity is particularly important for the Honduran economy, as the United States is the country’s largest trading partner.
“Our primary mission is to increase revenue and operational results while helping Honduran businesses succeed,” said Basil Khalil, Vice President of Operations for the Caribbean and Central America at FedEx. “By transitioning to the Boeing 767, we are focused on providing reliable and efficient logistics solutions that enable these businesses to access international markets, compete globally, and drive trade in the region.”
Additionally, FedEx has expanded its presence in Honduras by opening its first two FedEx Ship Centers. One is located in Tegucigalpa, in the Nova Plaza Kennedy-Francisco Morazan, and the other in San Pedro Sula, in Plaza Satelite 1 Calle.
Expansion of logistics in Guatemala
The expansion of logistics operations also affects Guatemala, another Central American economy whose largest trading partner is also the United States. “Upgrading our operations with a Boeing 767 is a direct investment in the success of Guatemalan businesses,” said Basil Khalil. “We are committed to providing reliable and efficient logistics solutions that enable local companies to enter international markets, compete globally, and promote trade throughout Central America.”
Furthermore, FedEx recently expanded its presence in Guatemala with the opening of a new FedEx Ship Center in Plaza Alameda, Zone 9, Quetzaltenango. This new location complements the existing network of five shipping centers in Guatemala City.
