May 22, 2026 at 8:16 AMDamen Shipyards has signed a contract with the Finnish company Alfons Håkans for the construction of an ASD Tug 3413 ICE. The agreement was announced during the recent International Tug and Salvage conference (IST) in Gothenburg (Sweden).
The new tug is designed for operations in ports and open waters under extreme ice conditions. The vessel meets the requirements of the Finnish-Swedish ice class ‚1-A Super‘ and can be operated at temperatures as low as –40°C, according to Damen. Heated deck areas and protected workspaces facilitate operations in Arctic conditions.
Equipped with a pulling force of more than 70 t, the tug will also feature contra-rotating steerprop drives. The ship is being built at the Damen shipyard Song Cam in Vietnam and is scheduled to be launched in June, after modifications for Alfons Håkans. Its arrival in Finland is planned for September. The family-owned company Alfons Håkans already operates several icebreakers and tugs in Finland, Estonia and Latvia.
