May 15, 2026 at 6:28 AMThe US company HERE Technologies has introduced a new solution to support delivery drivers, aimed at optimizing the last segment of the delivery process. The „HERE Last Meter Guidance“ utilizes artificial intelligence to provide precise instructions for the final meters of a delivery.
Optimization of the Last Meter
The last meters of a delivery often pose the greatest challenge and now account for more than half of the total costs in the supply chain. According to HERE Technologies, it is no longer sufficient to simply reach an address. Difficulties often begin only after arriving at the destination. The new solution aims to eliminate these uncertainties by helping drivers find the optimal parking spot and determine the best route to the destination as well as the correct access to the building.
By employing AI, automated sensor data, and continuous feedback from successful deliveries, „HERE Last Meter Guidance“ aims to create a reliable foundation. The expected benefits include more efficient fuel usage, a higher success rate for first deliveries, and an improved customer experience.
Bart Coppelmans, Senior Director of Product Management, stated: „We have already made significant progress in optimizing the approach to a destination, but it is the last meters that often present the biggest bottlenecks. Too often, drivers work with insufficient or confusing data precisely where precision is most critical.“
Challenges in urban areas
In urban areas, delivery volumes are increasing while streets are becoming increasingly difficult to navigate due to traffic congestion. At the same time, retailers are shortening delivery times and offering same-day or even one-hour delivery options. HERE’s solution aims to support fleets in this new reality by providing precise, realistic instructions for a quick and successful handover.
„HERE Last Meter Guidance“ complements the company’s existing planning and navigation functions and supports the entire transport process, from route planning to delivery at the doorstep. General availability of „HERE Last Meter Guidance“ is expected after the beta phase.
