May 12, 2026 at 11:12 AMAAL Shipping recently celebrated the official naming ceremony for its latest vessel, the „AAL Mumbai.“ The new multipurpose heavy lift ship, with a deadweight tonnage of 32,000 dwt, will be deployed at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou. With the commissioning of the „AAL Mumbai,“ AAL’s Super B-class fleet increases to a total of eight vessels. Two more ships of this class are expected to follow by 2028, according to the company.
The naming of the ship, according to AAL, refers to one of India’s most important maritime and industrial centers. The company aims to emphasize its commitment to the Indian market with this decision. The timing of the commissioning coincides with a rise in demand for specialized heavy lift and project cargo shipping solutions, as the infrastructure, energy, and offshore renewable sectors in India are experiencing growth.
Enhanced capacities
The „AAL Mumbai“ features several technical upgrades designed to enhance its performance. The crane capacity has been increased from 350 to 400 tons, allowing for a combined lifting capacity of up to 800 tons. Additionally, design improvements have been made to optimize deck strength and the handling of long and complex project components.
