SCT/MANNOL aims to secure raw material supply
May 12, 2026 at 7:39 AMVolvo Trucks has announced a comprehensive product launch aimed at the development of new powertrains. This initiative is part of a multi-billion SEK investment aimed at strengthening the company’s competitiveness while reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector, as the company recently stated.
Technologies for the future
The product line includes a platform for combustion engines designed for the use of various renewable fuels, including future hydrogen applications. Additionally, new electric powertrains are being introduced, which are expected to offer a range of up to 700 km. These developments aim to ensure that Volvo trucks are future-proof in all markets and transport segments.
According to Volvo Trucks, the demand for efficient powertrains varies significantly by region and market, prompting the company to offer a wide range of solutions. The different requirements for fuel supply and refueling infrastructure play a crucial role in this.
„The decarbonization of the transport industry must be accelerated, which is why this product launch is so important. Our new electric trucks can replace conventional vehicles in most cases. However, in certain regions and transport segments, we still rely on the combustion engine to reduce CO₂ emissions now and in the future. A unified engine platform allows us to achieve synergies and larger production volumes,“ explains Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
