May 12, 2026 at 7:25 AMThe Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International), founded in 1974, introduced a new membership form during its Mid-Term Meeting in London, aimed at companies operating in shipping, trade, logistics, the energy sector, and related fields. This Associate Membership allows firms that support WISTA’s mission to become part of the global network, even if they do not meet the requirements for regular membership in a national WISTA association.
The meeting took place from April 17 to 19 and brought together the Executive Committee of WISTA International with partners such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Chamber of Shipping. The discussions focused on the importance of partnerships and collaboration to drive change in the maritime industry. A key outcome of the meeting was the approval of the Associate Membership, which aims to expand WISTA’s reach and influence.
Elpi Petraki, President of WISTA International, commented on the new opportunities: “We are pleased to announce that WISTA International will soon accept Associate Members. This allows companies and institutions to join the global WISTA community and actively participate in our network.” She emphasized that the goal is to empower individuals to reach their full potential and that a broader membership can help make a tangible difference at both individual and corporate levels.
In his opening speech at the WISTA International event at the IMO, Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez highlighted the importance of collaboration. “It is a collective effort that will not bring about change overnight. But the more we engage in these discussions and understand what we want to achieve, the more we can accomplish,” said Dominguez. He urged attendees to remain active and to highlight both positive developments and areas where progress is needed.
