May 8, 2026 at 9:52 AMThe ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has expanded its „TransFER network“ in freight wagon transport to optimize connections between Austria, Germany, and Scandinavia. These measures include additional round trips, adjusted routes, and improved connections, as the company reports.
Expansion of cnnections
One of the significant changes involves the renaming and relocation of the „TransFER“ Linz–Duisburg–Wels. Starting in December 2025, this service will be offered from Salzburg under the new name TransFER Salzburg–Duisburg–Wels. This adjustment aims to strengthen the connection between the state of Salzburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region and improve access to key European ports such as Rotterdam and Antwerp, as well as to Scandinavian destinations.
Additionally, the „TransFER“ Salzburg–Augsburg–Ulm will be expanded. The frequency of round trips will increase from three to four per week. Furthermore, a transport to Ulm will be offered twice a week. According to the company, this expansion aims to intensify economic connections between Austria and Southern Germany and better link economic centers such as Salzburg and Augsburg.
