May 6, 2026 at 6:55 AMAmazon plans an investment program of over €15 billion in France, to be implemented over a period of three years (2026–2028). This represents the company’s largest investment in France. The measures include the construction of new logistics centers, the expansion of existing infrastructures, as well as investments in cloud and AI technologies. As part of this program, more than 7,000 new jobs in permanent employment contracts are to be created.
The creation of these jobs will begin in 2026 with the opening of three new distribution centers in Illiers-Combray and Beauvais, each with 1,000 positions, and in Colombier-Saugnieu with 3,000 positions. Another distribution center in Ensisheim is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, creating 2,000 new jobs. Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Managing Director of Amazon in France, emphasizes that this investment initiative aims to better serve French customers and the economy. He highlights that the investments are intended to lead to faster deliveries, a wider range of products, and lower prices.
Economic Impact and Benefits for Consumers
Amazon’s investments are expected to benefit not only customers in France but also strengthen the local economy. By creating over 7,000 new jobs, the economic vitality of the regions will be promoted. Amazon’s logistics network contributes to job creation, economic revitalization, and municipal tax revenues. For instance, the latest distribution center in Augny near Metz created 4,000 jobs within a year and makes a significant contribution to local tax revenues.
For consumers, the expansion of the logistics network means faster delivery times and a greater selection of products. In 2025, Amazon delivered over 170 million items on the same or next day to Prime members in France. This efficiency is supported by the use of advanced AI technologies that help optimize inventory management and shorten delivery routes.
Environmental Aspects and Employee Development
The investments are also in line with Amazon’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. The company has pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. By expanding the logistics network and being closer to customers, delivery routes are expected to be shortened and emissions reduced. An example is the distribution center in Augny, which has reduced the average transport distance by 25%.
Furthermore, employees benefit from the investments. The integration of new technologies into logistics operations is intended to enhance safety and efficiency in workflows. Amazon plans to invest €50 million in employee training by 2030. Since 2021, over 5,500 employees have already benefited from training programs offered by the company.
