Caroline Pontoppidan has been elected as the new Chair of the Board at the annual general meeting of Danish Shipping. She succeeds Torben Carlsen from DFDS, who has held this position since 2023. With this election, a woman will lead the Board of Danish Shipping for the first time.
Pontoppidan has been active as the Vice Chair of Danish Shipping for the past three years and is also the Executive Vice President (EVP), Chief Legal Officer, and Head of Corporate Communications at A.P. Møller – Maersk. In her first statement as the new Chair, she emphasized the need for appropriate conditions for Danish shipping companies. „The right conditions for Danish shipping companies are a prerequisite for keeping ships under the Danish flag. In a highly competitive industry, it is crucial that we, as shipping companies, have an organization behind us that understands our reality down to the engine room and can translate this knowledge into political frameworks that keep us among the global leaders in shipping,“ Pontoppidan stated.
Experience and outlook
Anne H. Steffensen, the CEO of Danish Shipping, welcomed Pontoppidan’s election and highlighted her contributions. „Caroline has been an outstanding and dedicated member of the Board of Danish Shipping in recent years, and I am confident that she is exactly the right person to set the course for the future. She has many years of experience in shipping and understands better than most the reality in which Danish shipping companies operate. I am very much looking forward to working with her,“ Steffensen said.
Pontoppidan takes over from Torben Carlsen with immediate effect. Steffensen thanked Carlsen for his significant contributions to ensuring strong conditions for Danish shipping and acknowledged his insights and experiences that he brought to the European work of Danish Shipping. „His good humor made it easier to stay the course even in turbulent times. I wish him all the best for the future,“ Steffensen added.
The position of Vice Chair of Danish Shipping will be taken over by Jan Rindbo from D/S Norden A/S.
