The company is investing €100 million in the establishment of this logistics facility, which will have over 65,000 pallet spaces. Once fully operational, it is expected to create 60 direct jobs, which will also have a significant indirect economic impact on the region near the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the presence of Tomás Jolín, Country Manager of NewCold in Spain, as well as Bram Hage, the founder and CEO of NewCold, and Jonas Swarttouw, the Managing Director for Europe. Other attendees included Agustín Jiménez, Mayor of Noblejas, Carlos Ángel Devia, Deputy Government Delegate in Toledo, and Santiago Baeza, General Director for Companies at the Ministry of Economy, Business, and Employment of Castilla La Mancha.
Bram Hage stated, „At NewCold, we invest with one goal: to provide our customers with the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability they need for their growth. Our new facility in Madrid will be among the most advanced automated cold chain centers in Europe.“
Technological equipment and strategic importance
The future facility will be equipped with the latest generation of automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) as well as additional technologies such as robotic picking. These systems are designed to maximize operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and ensure the highest standards in food safety.
Jonas Swarttouw emphasized that Spain is a strategically important market for NewCold’s customers, many of whom are rapidly growing in Southern Europe. „Our facility near Madrid will be an important hub within our integrated European network of automated cold storage and transport services, enabling logistical efficiencies and synergies for producers, distributors, and retailers.“
Tomás Jolín highlighted that the presence in Spain is a fundamental part of NewCold’s growth strategy in Europe. „Our customers are increasingly seeking resilient and energy-efficient logistics infrastructure. This facility will allow us to meet these needs while delivering the highest quality and innovation standards.“
