Apr 2, 2026 at 9:00 AMTwo U.S. freight rail players, railcar manufacturer Greenbrier Companies and pooling service provider TTX Company, have unveiled a specially designed freight car featuring the American flag in Cleburne, Texas. This event was held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States and honored the country’s history as well as the role of rail freight in the U.S. economy over nearly two centuries.
The new railcar type symbolizes the collaboration and craftsmanship of Greenbrier and TTX, who together support North American freight rail. The celebration was attended by company representatives, elected officials, active military personnel, veterans, employees, and media representatives.
Celebration of Partnership and Heritage
TTX CEO Tom Wells stated, “These freight cars with the American flag remind us of more than 250 years of U.S. history by highlighting the innovation and strategic partnerships that shape North American freight transportation today.” He emphasized the importance of collaborating with Greenbrier to deliver solutions that make freight movement efficient while honoring the industry’s legacy. Wells also thanked the partners who contributed to the realization of the project, particularly Williams Hayward Protective Coatings, Inc., which donated the paint.
Lorie Tekorius, CEO and President of Greenbrier, added, “This project showcases the strength of our long-standing partnership with TTX and our shared commitment to the North American economy. The integrated rail network in North America is the backbone that maintains freight movement efficiently and reliably.” She pointed out that the new freight car can remain in service for up to 50 years, meaning it will traverse the American rail network for decades.
Guests at the event included government representatives such as David Fink, Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration, as well as Texas State Representative Helen Kerwin and Mayor Pro Tem Blake Jones. They highlighted the ongoing significance of American rail transportation and the industrial capability of the country.
The American flag freight car is set to be operational in 2026 and will travel across North America. Its design honors the heritage of the United States and the role of railroads in supporting trade, connecting communities, and strengthening national infrastructure.
