Feb 9, 2026 at 10:51 AMA.P. Moller – Maersk has placed an order for eight container ships with New Times Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China. The new ships, each with a capacity of 18,600 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030, according to the company.
Fleet Renewal in Focus
Anda Cristescu, Head of Chartering and Newbuilding at Maersk, commented on the order: “We are pleased to have signed this agreement for the eight ships. The order is part of our ongoing fleet renewal and helps maintain the competitiveness of our fleet.” The new builds are more compact, measuring 366 meters in length and 58.6 meters in width, compared to the currently largest container ships, which reach a length of 400 meters. Maersk’s order book increases to 33 with this order, of which four are set to be delivered in the current year.
