According to Wabtec, this represents the largest locomotive modernization contract in the history of the railroad industry. The agreement aims to modernize Union Pacific’s „AC4400 locomotives“ to enhance operational efficiency and fleet productivity.
The modernizations build on an order from 2022, which is set to be completed this year. The updated fleet is expected to improve operational efficiency, reliability of train services, and the performance of the rail network. Jim Vena, CEO of Union Pacific, emphasizes that the new locomotives, which will be manufactured in the USA, are crucial for delivering the promised service.
