Europe’s air freight shrinks in March
May 13, 2026 at 2:01 PMThe Neptune Group of Companies took delivery of the next generation of its ship, the Neptune Pireas, on April 27, 2026, at the Fujian Mawei Shipyard in China. This vessel is the first of four new builds being realized under the „Genesis Project.“ The handover took place in the presence of Melina Travlos (photo), the company’s chairwoman, as well as representatives from all involved partners from both countries.
The naming of the ship is a tribute to the historic port of Piraeus, which is considered a central element of Greek shipping and the starting point for the Neptune Group’s journey over 50 years ago. The new ship, sailing under the Greek flag, features the distinctive „Eye“ on its bow, a symbol representing the Neptune Group’s fleet. With the Neptune Pireas, the efficiency of Neptune Lines is expected to be further enhanced to meet high operational standards and support the company’s continuously growing logistics services.
Technological features and environmental commitment
The Neptune Pireas is equipped with LNG dual-fuel technology, allowing operation with both LNG and conventional fuels. The ship has been designed to utilize a variety of fuel oils to meet the evolving environmental and energy regulatory requirements of the maritime industry. This underscores the Neptune Group’s commitment as a pioneer in sustainability and technological development in modern shipping.
The Neptune Group operates a modern, adaptable, and flexible fleet, which now consists of 22 Pure Car and Truck Carrier vessels with varying capacities from 1,500 to 6,500 vehicles. Upon the delivery of the new addition, Melina Travlos stated, „We are all very proud of the delivery of this state-of-the-art ship, which reflects our strategic commitment to continuous progress.“
Particularly touching for Travlos was that her daughter Mariana is the ship’s godmother, symbolizing the generational change within the long-term vision of the Neptune Group. Mariana Travlou expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the design and construction of the ship and emphasized the significance of the name Piraeus: „It honors our great port – a historic gateway of connection and exploration. It speaks not only of movement but also of transition, opportunities, and new horizons. May this ship carry that spirit wherever it sails.“
