IMO integrates wind propulsion into safety guidelines
Feb 3, 2026 at 9:34 AMMenzies Aviation has received a 15-year license to provide ground handling services at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This license, awarded by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), will take effect on April 1, 2026. Operations are set to commence once the necessary regulatory approvals are in place.
The new license builds on Menzies Aviation’s over 15-year presence at BLR Airport, where the company already provides air freight services for international and domestic airlines. Under the license, Menzies will offer a comprehensive range of ground handling services in Terminals 1 and 2, including passenger, ramp, and baggage handling. This enables airlines to utilize integrated ground and cargo services at the airport.
Airport Growth and Local Recruitment
Kempegowda International Airport is considered a key aviation hub for South Asia and ranks among the busiest airports in India, handling over 43 million passengers annually. The airport is experiencing strong growth in both domestic and international air traffic. India continues to show robust growth in passenger numbers, seat capacities, and network expansion, positioning the country as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets worldwide.
As part of the new contract, Menzies will launch a local recruitment program, aiming to hire approximately 1,000 new employees in the first three years. This will expand the existing team of 1,700 employees in the air freight sector. All new employees will receive comprehensive training that meets Menzies Aviation’s global safety and operational standards.
Additionally, Menzies plans to invest over $9.2 million in modernizing and standardizing its ground handling equipment at BLR Airport. This includes the introduction of electric equipment as part of a long-term sustainability strategy that aligns with BIAL’s goals and supports a shared commitment to decarbonization and operational efficiency.
Charles Wyley, EVP for the Middle East, Africa, and Asia at Menzies Aviation, commented on the partnership: „This long-term collaboration reflects BIAL’s confidence in our global safety, compliance, and service standards, as well as our ability to support the airport’s sustainability and growth objectives.“
Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer of BIAL, emphasized the importance of the partnership: „We are pleased to have Menzies Aviation as our ground handling partner. Menzies brings a proven global track record and extensive operational expertise that closely aligns with our own standards.“
