Over 101 million dollars for New York’s freight transport

Governess Kathy Hochul has announced that over 101 million US dollars will be allocated for 25 projects in New York. These projects aim to modernize freight rail lines and port facilities as part of the Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program (PFRAP). The investments are intended to improve the reliability and resilience of significant trade routes while also supporting the fight against climate change, as stated by the governor’s press office. The focus of the projects includes the rehabilitation of tracks and bridges, capacity expansion, the acquisition of more environmentally friendly rail vehicles, and the modernization and expansion of rail infrastructure at freight terminals and port facilities.

Among other things, the state is funding the connection of a grain facility to the Finger Lakes Railway in Waterloo with 1.7 million US dollars, the direct rail connection to the South Buffalo Railroad at the UFP site in Lackawanna with 3.2 million US dollars, and the rehabilitation of bridges and tracks on the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad with 4.6 million US dollars. Additionally, 1.6 million US dollars are being provided to improve the rail infrastructure in Sangerfield.
