Jul 12, 2023 at 6:34 PMGrowth for the Rhenus Group in the chemical region of Mannheim/Ludwigshafen: The globally active logistics service provider has acquired the Mannheim Transport Company Bayer GmbH (MTG) with a 100 percent stake. Both companies share a long-standing partnership thanks to their collaboration within the CargoLine logistics network. MTG will continue to operate under its own name.
(Holzwickede/Mannheim) With the 100 percent acquisition, the Rhenus Group is expanding its road freight network and strengthening its presence in the region between the locations in Dietzenbach, Hesse, and Pleidelsheim, Swabia. This allows the logistics service provider, which is very active in the chemical industry, to better serve the important economic area of Mannheim/Ludwigshafen and offer its customers the entire product portfolio of the company. The long-established customer relationships of the Mannheim Transport Company are particularly important for the Rhenus Group. “By integrating the Mannheim Transport Company, we are bringing a strong and locally rooted partner into our company. We are pleased to welcome highly trained and motivated employees to the Rhenus family and want to remain a reliable service provider for our existing customers,” says Nenad Lukic, Managing Director at Rhenus Road Freight.
Founded in 1927 as a transport company, MTG today employs 150 people and is firmly established in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. With a turnover of 30 million euros, its core business includes national and international general cargo, partial load, and full load transports. For interim storage, transshipment halls with a storage area of 10,500 square meters are available. As an owner-managed company, MTG relies on short decision-making paths and continuous growth and is considered a strong training company. MTG has a long-standing collaboration with the Rhenus Group, as both companies are part of the CargoLine logistics network.
Acquisition retroactively effective from January 1, 2023
Even after the acquisition, including all employees, the Mannheim company will continue to operate as MTG. “In light of the increasing consolidation of the general cargo markets and the rising IT requirements due to digitalization, we are confident that this merger and the associated economic strength will provide us with the opportunity to guarantee our customers and partners the usual planning security for their supply chains in the future. Last but not least, the change in shareholders also offers good future prospects for our employees,” say Walter and Gerhard Bayer, founders of MTG. Subject to the approval of the antitrust office, the Rhenus Group will acquire the company retroactively effective from January 1, 2023.
