EcoVadis is the world’s most renowned provider of sustainability ratings, with over 75,000 rated companies. The award recognizes Liebherr’s long-standing commitment to responsibility in line with its core values.
(Nenzing/Rostock) Liebherr-MCCtec is part of the Liebherr Group and the parent company for maritime cranes, crawler cranes, hydraulic excavators, as well as piling and drilling equipment for specialized foundation engineering. The gold medal for Liebherr-MCCtec places us among the top 5% of all rated companies and the top 3% of companies in our industry worldwide.
EcoVadis evaluates sustainability using indicators in four thematic areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Following the silver medals awarded in 2019 to Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. in Ireland and Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH in Germany, the gold status represents a significant improvement in our sustainability performance. This award recognizes the continuous development of our activities and our commitment to responsible corporate governance.
In a conversation about the award, Tatjana Grissemann, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Liebherr-MCCtec, stated: “Responsible management of the environment has always been an important part of the Liebherr philosophy. We have been part of our respective communities for many decades and have always cared for our local environment. This has not changed to this day, but as part of the global supply chain, we now also have a global responsibility.”
The Sustainable Choice for Our Customers
As an internationally active company with over 48,000 employees, the Liebherr Group bears great responsibility towards society and the environment. For this reason, the family-owned company has clearly set itself the goal of embedding sustainability in its core values. As part of the Liebherr Group, one of our core values is responsibility:
“We want to meet our responsibility to society and the environment at all times.”
We are convinced that we can only be successful in the long term if we always take this into account in our actions. The protection of people and the environment has a special significance in our business activities. For our products and their manufacturing, this means that they must be safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
All electrically powered portal cranes, a battery-operated series of construction machinery as part of our Unplugged series, as well as our harbor and terminal cranes with hybrid and electric drives give our customers the opportunity to choose sustainable products. Governments, society, and consumers demand more corporate responsibility. Thanks to Liebherr’s commitment to sustainability—not only in the area of the environment but also in human rights, procurement, and labor—our customers can trust that Liebherr is the sustainable choice.
United Nations Global Compact
Liebherr-MCCtec has signed the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The UN Global Compact pursues the vision of a sustainable economy for the benefit of all people, communities, and markets, today and in the future. It serves as a call for companies to align their strategies and actions with ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption, as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are at the heart of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” adopted by all member states of the United Nations (UN) in 2015.
The Future
“Our recent success is not the end, but merely another step on our journey,” adds Grissemann. “Our aim is to continue improving. We have charted a path into the future and are working to establish a culture of responsible management of people and the environment at all levels of the company—from employees to management. We have updated and expanded our commitment to sustainability, taking into account our long-term strategic direction, including the setting of goals and measurable metrics in the areas of emissions, energy, and employee health. Furthermore, we look forward to contributing to a group-wide sustainability report as part of the Liebherr Group—another contribution to greater transparency in our supply chains and the future of our planet.”
