Sep 8, 2021 at 5:29 PMThe Kombiverkehr KG offers freight forwarders a new intermodal connection between Germany and Austria. Since the beginning of this week, trains have been operating directly between the terminals Munich-Riem and Wels CTT. Three departures per week in each direction are scheduled. Forwarding to Hungary, Greece, and Turkey is possible.
(Frankfurt/Main) The cut-off time for containers, tank containers, and swap bodies in Munich is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7:50 PM, and in the opposite direction from Wels on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:45 PM and Saturdays at 3:00 PM. The trains reach the destination terminals overnight, allowing loading units to be picked up early in the morning and delivered to the recipient. For each loading unit with a loading weight of 25 tons, 280 kilograms of CO2 are saved compared to continuous road traffic. This corresponds to a saving of more than 75 percent. “Those who rely on rail as a freight forwarder automatically support climate protection. In the Austria traffic, freight forwarders not only transport sustainably on the existing connections to and from Duisburg, Neuss, and Ludwigshafen but also newly from and to Southern Germany. And with our numerous gateway connections, the savings on long distances multiply,” says Alexander Ochs, Managing Director of the intermodal provider.
Forwarding Traffic in One-Stop-Shop Procedure
München-Riem and Wels CTT not only serve as regional terminals but also as hubs for further transport. Within Germany, Cologne-Eifeltor and Leipzig-Wahren are also accessible for Austrian shipments. Within Austria, Wels is the hub for shipments to and from Vienna, Bludenz, Graz, Hall in Tirol, Linz, St. Michael, Villach, and Wolfurt, as well as to and from Sindos in Greece. There is also an international connection in Wels to and from Budapest. From there, Halkali near Istanbul is connected by rail. Kombiverkehr offers all forwarding traffic in a one-stop-shop procedure.
