According to a survey by the recruitment agency Gi Group, which questioned over 1,000 temporary job seekers in the UK, 84% of respondents from the logistics and warehousing sector expect feedback within seven days. In the transport and warehousing sector, this figure stands at 78.3%. These results highlight the importance of timely communication in the application process.
Cross-generational expectations
The survey shows that both younger and older workers have similar expectations regarding response times. Specifically, 79% of those aged 18 to 24 and 86% of those aged 45 to 54 expect feedback within a week. These figures underscore the necessity for companies to respond professionally and promptly to applications in order not to deter potential candidates.
Andy Carpenter, Managing Director of Gi Group UK & Ireland, emphasizes that the survey results can help employers navigate a challenging recruitment environment. He states, “Our data shows that there are clear expectations regarding companies‘ response times. Waiting ten days for a reply can not only delay the process but also discourage applicants from applying to a company in the future.”
Growth in the warehousing sector
The significance of the warehousing sector is supported by current statistics. According to the UK Warehousing Association, approximately 760,000 people are employed in warehousing in the UK, which is significantly higher than previously assumed. Data from the Office for National Statistics also shows that the number of jobs in this sector has increased by 40% since 2011. These developments illustrate the role that the warehousing industry plays in job creation.
Carpenter points out that recruitment in a changing labor market poses a challenge. “The speed of response is a competitive advantage, while professionalism remains an essential element. In a fast-paced, technology-driven society, it is crucial to ensure clear and honest communication to build trust and loyalty,” says Carpenter.
Regional differences in expectations
The survey results also reveal regional differences. In Northern England, 86% of candidates expect feedback within seven days, while this figure is 83% in the Midlands and 78% in Southern England. Carpenter emphasizes that recruitment is not only age-dependent but primarily focuses on trust and the establishment of professional relationships.
