Disruption in the digital train radio system in Germany
Jun 24, 2026 at 10:27 AMThe Gateway International Rail Park has announced the establishment of the Laredo Gateway Industrial Railway (LGIR), which will serve as a logistics platform to enhance cross-border freight capacity in the Laredo area. Approval by the Surface Transportation Board (STB) marks the completion of a 15-month process to construct a new approximately 4.2-kilometer railway line. This line is expected to play a crucial role in freight transport and connect shippers with transloading, distribution, and rail infrastructure, as stated by the LGIR.
Public access to the rail network
The STB’s approval requires the LGIR to provide transportation services, ensuring public access to the North American rail network. Kurt Kraus, CEO of Kraus Development, comments on the project’s goals: „The Gateway International Rail Park was designed to be more than just an industrial park – it was meant to become the leading logistics center with rail access in Laredo.“
The development of the LGIR is taking place in collaboration with Kraus Development, a land and facility developer, and Ironhorse Resources, an operations and development partner. The LGIR will connect to the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad, providing customers with a fast rail link.
