Jun 19, 2026 at 6:37 AMCathay Cargo has expanded its fleet with an Airbus A330 freighter to further support growth. This move follows the company’s recent announcement of ordering two additional Airbus A350F freighters. The new Airbus A330P2F, acquired under a leasing agreement with Air Hong Kong, a subsidiary of the Cathay Group, is intended to provide additional cargo capacity for customers and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a leading global air freight hub.
The A330 freighter will primarily be operated by Air Hong Kong, which was established exactly 40 years ago as the first dedicated cargo airline based in Hong Kong to conduct cargo flights to mainland China and other regional destinations for Cathay Cargo. Dominic Perret, Director of Cargo at Cathay, stated:
“The Cathay Group is enhancing our freighter fleet to support Cathay Cargo’s growth plans, expand our network, and solidify Hong Kong’s status as a leading air freight hub. The additional capacity of the latest A330 freighter from Air Hong Kong will complement Cathay Cargo’s future A350F freighters and provide us with more flexibility to expand our regional cargo network.”
Fleet expansion and new opportunities
Agatha Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Air Hong Kong, also commented on the new fleet:
“We are excited to welcome this latest member of our fleet, which will enable Air Hong Kong to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport to expand our presence in the region. This marks an exciting chapter for Air Hong Kong as we grow our business to support the ongoing development of Hong Kong as an international aviation hub.”
The A330 freighter is set to join Air Hong Kong’s fleet in the fourth quarter of 2026, based on a long-term leasing agreement with Air Transport Services Group, Inc. (ATSG) for an aircraft held by its leasing subsidiary Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM). Currently, Air Hong Kong operates a fleet of 14 A330 freighters providing express cargo services for DHL Express.
Cathay Cargo itself operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 747 freighters and additionally utilizes the cargo space capacity in the Cathay Group’s passenger network, which serves over 100 destinations worldwide.
