Cathay Cargo expands fleet with A330 freighter
Jun 19, 2026 at 5:51 AMEmirates SkyCargo has partnered with the British organization Dogs 4 Wildlife to support the protection of endangered species in Africa and combat poaching. As part of this collaboration, specially trained dogs are being transported to Zimbabwe to assist the work of wildlife rangers in Matusadona National Park.
The first two dogs, Vega (photo) and Kuda, are Belgian Malinois and have been trained by Dogs 4 Wildlife for conservation purposes. They are specialized in tracking human scents and were selected for their unique abilities. The transport of the dogs takes place from London via Dubai to Harare, where they will be deployed upon their arrival in Zimbabwe.
Animal welfare in transport focus
Emirates SkyCargo offers transport services for businesses worldwide. As part of their specialized animal transport services, the cargo division of Emirates ensures reliable transportation focused on animal welfare. This is supported by specific operational processes, dedicated facilities, and trained personnel.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, emphasizes the importance of wildlife protection and the necessity of collaboration and long-term commitment. He states:
“Through our partnership with Dogs 4 Wildlife, we support the deployment of highly qualified dogs that will play a crucial role in protecting endangered species.”
Darren Priddle, founder and volunteer trustee of Dogs 4 Wildlife, highlights that the collaboration with Emirates SkyCargo goes far beyond the transport of animals. It enables the deployment of specialized conservation capabilities that directly benefit the wildlife rangers working on the front lines to protect wildlife.
Commitment to wildlife protection
The partnership between Emirates SkyCargo and Dogs 4 Wildlife aligns with Emirates‘ long-term commitment to wildlife protection. The airline pursues a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal wildlife trade and has prohibited the transport of hunting trophies, among other measures. Emirates SkyCargo works closely with industry partners, government agencies, and conservation organizations to prevent the movement of illegal wildlife products in global supply chains.
Since the launch of its awareness program on illegal wildlife trade, Emirates has trained over 46,000 employees to recognize and report potential risks associated with wildlife trade. Emirates has also achieved IATA certification for Environmental Assessment (IEnvA), which includes a specific module for wildlife protection.
The announcement of the partnership comes in the context of the 10th anniversary of the Buckingham Palace Declaration and the United for Wildlife High-Level Business Forum in London, where the importance of cross-sector collaboration in the fight against illegal wildlife trade is highlighted. Emirates has been an active supporter of United for Wildlife since the inception of the declaration and continues to contribute to industry-wide efforts to combat wildlife trafficking.
