US 3PL market grows despite (due to?) trade uncertainties
Jun 12, 2026 at 9:42 AMCargojet Airways will commence air freight charter flights to Guyana starting June 12, 2026. This was announced following a meeting between Dr. Irfaan Ali, the President of the South American country, and executives from Cargojet Airways in Canada. Guyana’s Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Hon. Deodat Indar, also met with representatives from DHL, who have contracted Cargojet Airways to coordinate the new services.
The weekly flights will operate the route Miami (MIA) – Caracas, Venezuela (CCS) – Georgetown (GEO) – Medellin, Colombia (MDE) – Miami (MIA) and are specifically intended for DHL Express USA. Minister Indar congratulated DHL executives Maurice John and Xavier Cerruto on the launch of the new service.
The Minister pointed out that the Canadian cargo airline is capitalizing on the opportunities in Guyana arising from the significant growth in international air freight traffic since 2020. This growth reflects the country’s evolving economy, increasing trade activity, and expanding international connectivity.
Air freight volumes in Guyana have risen from 7,600 tons in 2020 to 14,400 tons in 2025, representing an increase of 88.5% over a five-year period. This increase is primarily attributed to the import of industrial equipment and materials supporting the country’s rapidly growing oil and gas sector. Additionally, the ongoing rise in e-commerce and demand for air freight services plays a crucial role.
In 2026, the upward trend continues, with a further increase in freight volume of 21% year-to-date. This underscores the increasingly important role of air freight for national development, trade, and business operations in Guyana.
The sector also benefits from the presence and expansion of international freight providers, which have increased air freight capacities and strengthened Guyana’s access to regional and global markets. International cargo companies operating in Guyana since 2020 include LATAM Cargo and Avianca Cargo, both of which have contributed to the further development and diversification of the country’s air freight network.
