May 11, 2026 at 9:06 AMThe Duisburg port has introduced a new digital registration system for ships: The „River Ports Planning and Information System“ (RPIS) allows users to register more efficiently and transparently, as Duisport reports. The implementation of this system is carried out in collaboration with the operator RheinPorts and positions Duisburg as the third port to introduce this technology after Basel and Trier.
The RPIS connects various stakeholders along the waterway, including ports, transshipment terminals, and inland shipping operators. According to Duisport, the real-time exchange of data is intended to reduce bureaucracy and optimize the logistics chain. Lars Nennhaus, Board Member for Technology and Operations at duisport, emphasizes the high acceptance of the system: Already 160 shipping companies and private operators have registered at the launch. The introduction of the RPIS is seen by Nennhaus as a step in the digitization of the waterway system. He adds: „With the introduction of the RPIS, the Duisburg port is taking another important step to strengthen the efficiency of the waterway and to further develop inland shipping digitally.“
