May 7, 2026 at 7:44 AMDHL Express has introduced a new AI-powered solution for identifying shipment contents, aimed at enabling customs-compliant descriptions of shipping items. This technology utilizes computer vision methods to analyze a photo of the shipment and convert it into a customs-compliant description, as the company reports. According to DHL Express, this development represents a significant relief for international shipping, as it simplifies one of the most labor-intensive steps in the process.
Optimization of the shipping process
The introduction of this technology is part of DHL Express’s ongoing efforts to make international shipping more customer-friendly. With the new AI solution, the labeling process is automated, which is expected to improve data quality and minimize shipping delays. The solution aims to provide customers with an optimized experience by reducing the effort required for accurately describing shipment contents. „When shipment data is captured correctly from the start, all subsequent process steps benefit – from fewer inquiries to faster customs clearance,“ said Dirk Olufs, EVP & Global CIO at DHL Express.
