CargoBeamer appoints Julian Hagenschulte as CDO
Jan 8, 2026 at 8:17 AMAlessandro Cacciola will become a new member of the management board of Gebrüder Weiss. Starting March 1, 2026, he will take over responsibility for the Air & Sea division. He succeeds Lothar Thoma, who is leaving the company for personal reasons and will step down from his position after an orderly handover on March 31, 2026.
Wolfgang Niessner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Gebrüder Weiss, commented on Cacciola’s appointment: “With Alessandro Cacciola, we gain an experienced leader who brings all the prerequisites to ensure continuity on one hand, but also to provide new impulses at Gebrüder Weiss.” Niessner emphasized that they want to further strengthen the growing Air & Sea sector together with Cacciola and expand global services.
Cacciola brings over 20 years of experience in international logistics. He studied business administration with a focus on freight forwarding, transport, and logistics, and earned an MBA in International Business Management & Leadership. He began his career at the logistics service provider Dachser, where he held various European sales and management positions. Later, he served as the global sales manager and a member of the management board of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics. In 2019, he moved to the board of the Andreas Schmid Group, where he was responsible for a comprehensive restructuring and internationalization of the company.
Cacciola commented on his new role: “Gebrüder Weiss is a renowned name in the industry and has always stood for trust, quality, and consistent customer focus. I look forward to getting to know my colleagues worldwide.” He emphasized the importance of open exchange across country and cultural boundaries and named the strategic further development of Gebrüder Weiss’s service portfolio as a central goal.
Lothar Thoma has been a member of the management board since September 1, 2019, and has developed the Air & Sea division during challenging market phases, including the Corona pandemic. Under his leadership, strategically important expansion steps were implemented in countries such as the USA, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand, Poland, and Germany. Thoma looks back on around 40 years in logistics and now wishes to dedicate himself to other pursuits. He wishes his successor and the team much success.
Wolfgang Niessner thanked Thoma for his contributions and wished him all the best for the future. The handover between Thoma and Cacciola will be supported by a one-month transition phase to ensure continuity for customers, partners, and employees.
With the appointment of Alessandro Cacciola, the management board of Gebrüder Weiss, which consists of Wolfram Senger-Weiss (Chairman of the Management Board), Jürgen Bauer, and Peter Schafleitner, will be expanded.
