Jan 7, 2026 at 10:19 AMThe Trois-Rivières Port Authority awarded the first ship of the year on January 6, 2026. The honor went to the „VECTIS PRIDE,“ which arrived at the port on January 4, 2026, at 12:05 AM. This marks the celebration of a maritime tradition that has been ongoing for 60 years, according to the authority.
The „VECTIS PRIDE“ completed a 15-day journey across the Atlantic, departing from the port of Antwerp on December 20, 2025. On board are 13 crew members from the Philippines, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine. The ship is transporting a steel cargo intended for the construction industry, handled by LOGISTEC.
To qualify for the title of first ship of the year, certain criteria must be met. The ship must come from a foreign port, complete the crossing without stops or calls at other Canadian ports, and conduct loading or unloading operations in Trois-Rivières.
Anick Métivier, President and CEO of the port, highlighted the work of LOGISTEC, a company specializing in the handling of all types of goods. He also emphasized the importance of a strong relationship between the city and the port, stating that the port will strive to shape its future even more ambitiously in 2026.
“Today, we highlight 60 years of a tradition that embodies the vitality of our port and our community. The first vessel of the year is not just a ritual: it symbolizes our strategic role in Mauricie and across the country. As the new CEO of the port, it is a special honor to experience this ceremony. It also reminds us that our success is built on the vision and boldness of those who came before me and inspires me to pursue a vision of innovation and sustainable development for generations to come,” said Métivier.
