The Rotterdam Port Authority has announced the development of a new terminal for offshore wind activities. A 45-hectare site in the northwestern corner of Maasvlakte will be created for storage, transport, and assembly facilities for wind turbines and their foundations. The terminal will provide direct nautical access to the North Sea and will be equipped with heavy quays and modern logistics facilities. The terminal is scheduled to be operational by mid-2029.
Infrastructure for offshore wind farms
The planned terminal will feature 835 meters of quay suitable for the latest generation of offshore wind turbines. This quay will be used for jack-up vessels and pre-assembly work, among other purposes. Additionally, a roll-on/roll-off facility is planned to enable transport with various modes of transport. Besides supporting the construction of offshore wind farms, the terminal will also be designed for the decommissioning of existing wind farms.
