Jun 23, 2026 at 10:48 AMThe British International Freight Association (BIFA) highlights in a statement the role of its memberships, which have played a function in trade between Great Britain and the European Union over the last ten years since the Brexit referendum. Brexit has fundamentally changed trading conditions and significantly complicated the transport of goods between the two regions.
Complexity of the new trading conditions
Before Brexit, the movement of goods between Great Britain and the EU was largely smooth according to BIFA. However, with the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU, numerous new requirements came into effect. These include customs declarations, rules of origin, VAT and customs procedures, as well as security requirements. In many sectors, sanitary and phytosanitary controls have also become necessary. According to the association, BIFA members have actively engaged to provide companies with expertise and support. They have developed systems that enable the maintenance of supply chains and minimize disruptions.
Investments in technology and training
In the past ten years, freight forwarders have expanded their customs clearance activities and developed logistics services tailored to the new post-Brexit requirements, according to the association. They have also invested in technology and the training of their staff. These measures have enabled companies to adapt to the constantly changing regulations in Great Britain and the EU.
