Oman Air Cargo launches RFS between Muscat & Dubai
Jun 17, 2026 at 1:41 PMThe Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has expanded its capacity for handling Airbus aircraft parts at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT). In a ceremonial opening attended by the shipping company COSCO SHIPPING and Airbus, the new parking spaces were presented. This expansion aims to optimize logistics for aircraft components and meet the increasing demand.
Since 2008, pre-assembled segments have been transported from the Airbus plant in Hamburg to the CTT. There, they are temporarily stored in a specially designated area before being loaded onto ships from COSCO SHIPPING. These ships transport the components for final assembly in Tianjin, China. With the recent capacity expansion, a total of 20 parking spaces for Airbus segments are now available at the CTT, which represents a doubling of the previous capacity. For the year 2025, it is expected that nearly 300 aircraft parts weighing over 5,000 tons will be handled at the CTT.
Technical Improvements for Efficiency Enhancement
In addition to the capacity expansion, a newly developed anchoring technique is being implemented to increase the efficiency of the handling processes. An extended windbreak protects the sensitive cargo parts from external influences. The service team at the CTT is specially trained to meet the high demands of the aviation industry. Regular standardized inspections ensure compliance with all safety standards.
Jaber Ghanim, project manager of HHLA at the CTT, commented on the expansion: “Together with Airbus and COSCO SHIPPING, we have created the conditions at the CTT to further expand the export activities of one of Hamburg’s most significant industrial enterprises. We are pleased to support our partners in reliably bringing more high-quality European products to international markets in the future. Special thanks go to the project team at Tollerort, which successfully implemented the expansion during ongoing operations.”
