Jun 17, 2026 at 7:21 AMAccording to a report by Logista Freight, smartphones are the most important product in technology trade within the European Union. In 2025, goods worth 42.664 billion euros were traded in the 27 EU countries, accounting for 12.2% of the total market volume of 350.289 billion euros. These figures illustrate the growth of technology trade, which, according to Logista Freight, has more than doubled in the last ten years and is increasingly influenced by the development of artificial intelligence.
Key trade flows and corridors
The report highlights that the Netherlands and Germany are central players in European technology trade. These two countries serve as both origin and destination for the ten most significant trade flows. The largest trade flow, according to the analysis, occurs between the Netherlands and Germany, amounting to 29.018 billion euros. In second place is the trade from the Netherlands to France, with a volume of 16.158 billion euros.
The central role of the Netherlands in technology trade is primarily attributed to the Port of Rotterdam, which is considered a gateway for technology products into Europe. A large portion of the containers carrying smartphones, laptops, chips, and other components from countries such as China, the USA, Vietnam, or Taiwan enters the EU through this port. From there, transportation continues by truck to other member states. The analysis of the modes of transport used shows that road transport accounts for over 90% of the logistics flows in the EU-27.
