The company acquired the remaining 49.9% of the shares from TAP Air Portugal and is now the sole owner. This transaction was approved by the Portuguese Court of Auditors and follows the initial acquisition of 50.1% in 2024. With this, Menzies continues its long-term investment and growth strategy in Portugal.
SPdH, formerly known as Groundforce Portugal, is responsible for more than 100,000 flight movements per year at five of the country’s busiest airports, including Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Funchal, and Porto Santo. The company offers a variety of services for international airlines.
With the full acquisition, Menzies Aviation sees itself in a strong position to advance the implementation of its strategic plan in Portugal. The focus is on operational excellence, safety, and service quality. Menzies plans to continue investing in modern technologies and to promote the development of its over 3,500 employees to support the long-term resilience and efficiency of airport operations in the country.
The acquisition underscores Menzies‘ confidence in the Portuguese aviation market and reaffirms the company’s commitment to strengthening handling capacities and supporting the broader aviation ecosystem, which plays a vital role in tourism, connectivity, and economic growth.
