Barcelona and Shanghai sign cooperation agreement
Jun 11, 2026 at 12:15 PMOn Wednesday evening, the Swedish Ambassador to Poland, Martina Quick, visited the Finnlines service between Sweden and Poland aboard the M/S *Finnfellow*. The occasion celebrated the success of this route, which has welcomed over 200,000 passengers since its launch. This milestone underscores the growing importance of the connection in strengthening relations between Poland and Sweden, as well as promoting links across the Baltic Sea.
The event brought together representatives from Finnlines and the Swedish Embassy in Warsaw, as well as customers, partners, and media representatives. With the upcoming summer travel season, the event provided an opportunity to discuss the significance of efficient maritime connections for tourism, business travel, freight transport, and trade between the two countries. “Sweden and Poland share close and growing relations. Good transport connections play an important role in supporting the exchange between people and businesses in both countries,” explained Martina Quick.
Since the opening of the route in April 2024, it has established itself as an important link between the two countries, facilitating travel and trade and bringing people and businesses closer together.
Growing Passenger Volume
Since its introduction, more than 200,000 passengers and drivers have utilized the route. In summer 2025, the number of passengers increased by 39 percent compared to the first summer season, indicating the growing demand for direct connections between Sweden and Poland. Over half of the passengers are Polish travelers, while the route also attracts visitors from countries such as Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Ukraine. The proximity of Malmö to Copenhagen and the wider Öresund region has further enhanced the attractiveness of the route as a gateway between Scandinavia and continental Europe.
“The interest in traveling between Sweden and Poland continues to grow. We look forward to a busy summer season as more travelers discover the convenience of the route and the destinations it connects,” said Marco Palmu, Head of Passenger Services at Finnlines.
Important Transport Connection for Freight Traffic
In addition to tourism and passenger traffic, the route also serves as an important transport corridor for goods between Scandinavia, Poland, and Central Europe. By providing reliable maritime transport services, Finnlines supports supply chains, facilitates trade, and helps businesses gain access to key markets in the region. “Efficient transport connections are crucial for trade and economic growth. The Świnoujście–Malmö route strengthens the links between our markets and supports the movement of people and goods,” explained Antonio Raimo, Line Manager at Finnlines and Managing Director of Rederi AB Nordö-Link.
Finnlines offers daily freight and passenger services between Malmö and Świnoujście, as well as a freight service from Gdynia to Hanko with six departures per week. Additionally, there is a weekly freight service connecting Poland with key European markets.
